Ah Leng Char Kuey Teow @ Penang

My stay in Penang continues and how I can miss out the famous Char Kuey Teow in this food heaven land. After a good search, I found two places. One of it is Ah Leng Char Kuey Teow stall located along the Jalan Dato Keramat.

This is the stall, Ah Leng Char Kuey Teow and if you look closer, the regular plate will cost you RM5.00 while a special plate will cost you RM9.00! That's not cheap for a special plate, but what's included? Check out below. There is also an option to use duck egg instead of chicken egg for an additional RM0.50, take it up. You don't go there just to eat a normal plate of Char Kuey Teow, tick all the options for maximum enjoyment =)

Each time I got there I also met this uncle with a young lady assisting him. Looking at the way he prepare the Char Kuey Teow is an entertainment. He work slowly and you got to wait for a while for your plate. The serving is slow partly due to his speed, not the crowd. It's worth the wait, trust me.

Joo Hooi Cafe @ Penang

I went for the Penang Marathon last year and had a chance to explore the food heaven in Penang, and of course the main mission is to find the best famous Laksa in town. KL people call Laksa as Assam Laksa and Curry as Curry Laksa, not sure why.

My parents brought me to Penang since I'm kid and the taste of the delicious Laksa still linger around my mind after such a long time. Ipoh also do have some nice Laksa around, but still the Penang Laksa give me the deepest impression. Where is the best Laksa in Penang? I think no one will argue that if it's not the Laksa serves in Joo Hooi Cafe. There are different opinions, but no one will argue it's not good. Let's see.

Joo Hooi Cafe occupied the corner shoplot at the cross road of Lebuh Keng Kwee and Jalan Penang. It's not easy to miss it as you will see a big crowd of people surrounding the small store beside the road.

SS20 Fish Head Noodles @ Damansara Kim

This time introducing a good Fish Head Noodles located in Damansara Kim known as SS20 Fish Head Noodles. As it's so near to my working place, we tend to frequent this place for a good lunch. Normally the most important criteria for our lunch is easy parking, good access, fast service, reasonable price and good food. It's not easy to become a good lunch place, but this place meets all the criteria, and it means good place. Let's see.

The SS20 Fish Head Noodles, a small store but great food. The staff even got uniform, very organise. The shop is open from 9am till 9pm daily and they got around 5 workers during peak time. A small store occupied by 6-7 staff during peak hour, you will be happy.

Half Marathon Training

Little update on my marathon training. We went for the TTDI park for a run yesterday and I manage to maintained an average speed of 7min/km for entire 6km run. That's a good improvement over my earlier results and I'm looking for forward to continue with the run for a full 10km in next month. My walking speed is around 11~12min/km, should improve during marathon for power walk though.

With this result, I'm estimating I can complete the Energizer Night Race 2011 with following timing:

0km: 0:00:00
5km: 0:35:00
10km: 1:10:00
15km: 1:45:00
21km: 2:33:00 (last 6km with mixture of running and power walk)

It's almost same result with my earlier marathon run, and for improvement, I can increase my pace from 7min/km to 6min/km. Will see how it goes. Cheers.

Registration for Energizer Night Race 2011

I've made a promise to complete a full marathon run this year and it's one of my resolution for 2011. Immediately after the Penang Bridge International Marathon 2010, I keep on searching for the next run, and the upcoming event is the Energizer Night Race 2011!

With my healing knee and to keep myself going-in, I quickly register myself to make sure I don't change my mind. I'm not going for a full marathon this time, but another 21km run to prepare myself for the upcoming real challenge.

Here is my registration and it's indicated runner pack will be ready for collection from 25th March onwards at The Curve and Tropicana. Otherwise you can always head up to SIC on that day for collection, but as usual, my advice would still be no to avoid the crowds and wasting unnecessary energy before the run. I still need everything I got for the run.

Penang Bridge International Marathon 2010

Finally have some time to sit down and write about my incredible experience of my 1st Half-Marathon Run in Penang earlier. The marathon is on Sunday morning and my half marathon run is suppose to start at 3.00am. Full marathoner starting at 2.00am! Bugger, running marathon is already crazy, somemore start so early ....

Anyway we woke up a little late and left the hotel that's located between Ferringhi and the town only at 2.30am. I got exactly 30 minutes to get there, park the car and start the run! Shite, so I drove like crazy and the worst part is there is road block around the main road and cars jammed up. Not very familiar with Penang road, and with some help on my GPS, i took the small road around the town and finally stalked a motorcyclist that's wearing the same half marathoner shirt all the way =) haha, nice experience, and on the way as we were going for a run of our life at 2.30am, we saw lots of people still partying in the club along the road ... making me think i'm such a loser ...

As we got nearer to the area, the road is already blocked and we were still almost 5km away from the event. Cars are parked everywhere, packed up and luckily I found a spot just below the tree and stucked my little italian beast in it. Next time I will make sure I allocate at least over an hour to reach the place. Let's go and complete the whole damn thing.

The Daily Grind, Best Burger in Town

I've been missing in action for a long time, because of a long busy end of the year in both personal & career works. Anyway, back tracked all the way till 14th October 2010, we officially marked the 10th year anniversary of my relationship with my wife. Thanks to all the wishes to our 10 year relationship marathon, and thankfully it is still going strong =)

I have heard of this special place in Bangsar Village from a friend of mine that they serve a true gourmet burgers, named The Daily Grind. Without hesitation, I decided to take his advice to celebrate our anniversary. Let's skip the romantic story and go straight to the food =P

The Daily Grind is located in the Bangsar Shopping Complex and it is brand new and visible from the road side occupying the lower ground floor of the complex.

The entrance is small but it's decorated tastefully of underground subway decors. The restaurant is basically separated into two sections with a bright opening as you can see before the counter, and another dimmer dining tables inside the restaurant.
