Preparation for KL Marathon 2010

Counting down of 29 days till the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2010. I'm tensing up as I've still haven't started any real training. I forced myself for another run yesterday to time myself for improvement over my "leisure" jog over the park last few weeks, and I manage to complete 7km with a mixture of walking & running over 60 minutes. Not very impressive feat, but a slight improvement over the earlier timing.

This time, I also make use of my GPS system to track the mileage and finally confirmed that the park that I'm training in has 0.7km for a complete round. I averaged 4~6kmh in walking and manage to achieve 10~12kmh in running. I ran non-stop for 2.1km (3 rounds) and started walking then continue running whenever I catch up with my breath. I foresee that I would be able to complete the 10km marathon if I keep it up with following plans.

1km: 6:00 - 6 minutes (running at 11km/hr)
2km: 12:00 - 6 minutes (running at 11km/hr)
3km: 18:00 - 6 minutes (running at 11km/hr)
4km: 28:00 - 10 minutes (walking at 6km/hr)
5km: 34:00 - 6 minutes (running at 11km/hr)
6km: 42:00 - 8 minutes (mixture of walking & running)
7km: 50:00 - 8 minutes (mixture of walking & running)
8km: 58:00 - 8 minutes (mixture of walking & running)
9km: 1:06:00 - 8 minutes (mixture of walking & running)
10km: 1:14:00 - 8 minutes (mixture of walking & running)

So I will need to train myself to make sure I can run non-stop for 3km to achieve my dreams and subsequent 8 minutes achievement till 10km. With that, I should still have 16 minutes buffer for any problem.

Then, as advised, a good running shoe is necessary. My old reliable Adidas is running bad due to my intense jogging works and casual wear over last 2 years. I only do Adidas, don't ask why. I went through the Adidas website and found out it's very helpful in helping me to narrow down my search. There are category like road / off road, motion mechanics type, and category. Phew, never thought it's so complicated. Quickly flip through the catalgoeu and I'm eyeing this ... slurp.

Adidas Adizero Tempo cost over RM400.00

It looks simple and not outstanding but costing a massive over RM400. The unique of this shoe, it weighs only 270grams, full all round ventilation (yea, that means water will sip in), adiprene+ at forefoot for propulsion, torsion system at midfoot for integrity, adiprene at heel for comfort and formotion floor for ground adaption.

Sounds like rocket science, yes, it does and that's why it cost so much. Adizero is one of the favourite running show for marathon runner, see if I can get one for myself on this 10km marathon.

Restoran Million @ Jalan Ipoh

You know, there are lots of these old restaurant dotted around the KL city that have survived over a few generations and we visisted one of it located nearby Jalan Ipoh called Restorant Million. I didn't know this place until my sister brought us over. With five of us in the car, we drive off this find this place.

Restoran Million, located just opposite the Mobil at the U-turn road of Jalan Duta & Jalan Ipoh. It's some very old restoran, so don't expect the hygiene to be fantastic. The parking there is havoc but keep an eye for the barricade cone in front of the shop. If there is an empty space with one of those in front of the shop, then it's privately reserved by the shop, just give it a horn and they will let you park. That's how they do bussiness earlier, and it never change =) Nice touch making me remember those old times.

Woo Pin Fish Head Noodles @ Taman Danau Desa

There is a shop in the Taman Danau Desa that's very famous with the fish head noodles. I've been hearing of it for very long time, but never have the chance to try. My parents came down to KL for a visit, so my sister took the chance to bring us to try it out.

Don't be fooled by the photo below, The shop name is Woo Pin Fish Head Noodles, not Ho A One Seafood Steamboat. They have taken over the shop for very long time since 2009 but still havent remove the old sign yet. Look clearly, they open from 7.30am till 10.00pm! Impressive, now you know where you can look for some fish head noodles if suddenly you feel hungry at 7.30am or 10.00pm ...

A shot of the front shop, can see even the tables outside are packed!

Apology

I've just realised that I accidentally throw in some filter effect of all my new S90 photos in the blog. I'm changing it out for the real quality of the S90, no wonder why it looks funny. Sorry, works undergoing.

Yummy Duck Roast House @ Kuchai Lama

Kuchai Lama is really developing fast, few years ago only got a foodcourt with some old shops, now it's booming with condominium, banks and food outlets. Mushrooming fast and I can't keep my blog up to pace with the food outlet opening there!

The next up is the Yummy Duck Roast House that opened up not long ago in Kuchai Entrepreneur's Park. Duck lovers, so definitely not going to miss this. Took a shot of the shop, so far so good. Let's look deeper.

Registration for Kuala Lumpur Marathon 2010

I've been gaining weight and it's already started to get out of control. Regular exercise is not going to fit into my busy work schedule and I'm just not committed to my own weight control plan. A friend of mine is pursuing back his target of finishing a full marathon, so I'm thinking, that would be a good way to push myself while getting some achievement of life at the same time. Nice!

He just completed 10km run on the Energiser Night Race and he is registered for half marathon (21km). He is targeting to complete the full marathon by end of the year, ok that's crazy. For first timer like me, I'm a little over confidence of my limit but advised by him to try out before deciding which to join. I did a test and the result is not satisfactory.

0.0km = 0:00.00
0.6km = 4:03.14
1.0km = 7:14.02
1.4km = 11:21.42
2.0km = 14:24.70
2.6km = 23:14.65 (obviously i'm walking, 9 minutes for 0.6km)
3.0km = 27:58.56
3.4km = 32:29.05
4.0km = 35:27.40
4.6km = 40:10.91
5.2km = 46:12.73

My friend told me that a good rule of thumb to know my limit is to run non-stop for half of the journey. Looking at the time record that I get, I'm not qualified for the 5km leisure run that got time limit of 45minutes! Then I know that I only can stretch myself to 10km. I registered for KL Marathon on 27th June 2010 for 10km marathon. The qualifying time for 10km is 1 hour & 30 minutes. As I write, I still have 44 days 2 hours and 14 minutes away from it, I seriously need to start training now!

A full marathon qualifying time limit is 6 hours, and some stretch 9 hours just to prove that they can finish it. Imagine running full 6 hours! Incredible...

Cao Cao Roast Lamb Chop & Best Claypot Yee Mee @ Old Klang Road

ng RI went back to KL for the weekend and we just wanted to have something fast and simple. Immediately I thought of this place near Old Klang Road. It's some road side hawkers and it's truely some gems hidden. Normally I don't carry my D90 around places like these, so this is where the Canon S90 shines =) I asked my wife to grab it along, throw it into her bag and off we go.

We reached the place and I quickly try out the low light capability of the S90 from my seat. Impressive brightness at f/2.0 with little noise notice around ISO 800. Ok, this is the place, Cao Cao Roast Lamb Chop. Take note of the aunty standing beside the bbq pit, that's where the magic takes place, or inferior quality control!

A serving of the famous Cao Cao Roast Lamb Chop served with mint sauce. To me, the most important of having lamb chop is the mint sauce, I will never eat lamb at any place that don't serve the mint sauce. Simple, from my experience, if they don't serve the mint sauce, meaning that they don't know how to serve the lamb.

IA Kuala Klawang Run - Incredible Experience

The main reason that I dare to buy an Alfa is because of influence from a good friend of mine, but it's the Italia Auto that really gave me the confidence to actually do it. Italia Auto (IA) is formed by a group of Italian Car Enthusiast with registered member of over three thousands as I type. I've been logging the forum since 2007 when my interest in Alfa grows, and all of the members are very friendly and helpful. I got my bella deal from there too.

IA organised a Kuala Klawang Run last weekend, and I took the chance to participate after a year of Alfa ownership. We met up at the Petronas Ampang Jaya and take off from there for a "B" road run across the border of Selangor-Negeri Sembilan to Kuala Klawang. 11 cars show up, here is a peek shot and more to follow.

Beautiful Italian Bella lined up around the quiet town after Kuala Klawang's Spirit Run.
