Taipang Matang (Teochew) Seafood Porridge Restaurant @ Puchong

It's Saturday evening and we are running out of thoughts of what to have for dinner. The night is breezing cold after an evening rain and my wife has a little flu coming, so she suggested something light & easy. She is active in Puchong area and myself usually never set foot into Puchong considering the traffic there. There she repetitively recommended this place that's good with their seafood porridge, and I say why not we have it tonight. Off we go to Puchong.

Taipang Matang Seafod Porridge Restaurant that's located just within the shoplots at Bandar Puteri Puchong. It occupies the ground floor of a corner unit and the floor space is huge! The name on the signboard is a little misleading though, as there is no English, and even the name is in Chinese only. I suspect any other races other than Chinese will actually patronise it for not knowing what they are selling, I think it's a mistake.

However, the menu suggested otherwise. Obviously someone designed the menu for them, as it's creatively English drafted including a Chinese four-words phrase. The photographs are also professsionally done, wondering why other restaurants couldn't even spend a little money on the menu. Looking at those other badly presented foods in the menu urge me to help them take some nice photos for publicity. As those foods that's really nice, they wouldn't even be able to attract anyone to order it if it's not presented nicely in the menu. It's especially true for walk-pass customers, call me for nice photos!

Nyonya Imperial Restaurant @ Puchong

My best friend came down last month to be torture by the jimui, so I gather up another high school friend for a dinner eat out. He suggested for us to try out the Nyonya Imperial located in Bandar Puteri, Puchong, as we all have already try the Bumbu Bali but would like some local spicy food. A little reluctant because it's a Friday night and as you know the traffic condition in Puchong. Problem is, my friend is staying in the Puchong, so no choice, let's go. Another place to explore anyway.

The main entrance of the Nyonya Imperial Restaurant in Bandar Puteri Puchong. The restaurant occupies the ground floor and the first floor, but somehow the first floor is not open, probably only open when there are more customers. Anyway, I think that's stupid because it makes the place so dark and those that dont know the place might think it's another run-down restaurant in the process of bankruptcy. The lighting along the corridor is also too dark, please dimmed up the dining place for the ambience enough already! Light up the rest to show people that you are there. As expected, when we got in, only a few tables are occupied.

As we made our order, I snapped away and noticed the decoration within the shop is actually quite nice. The ground floor has minimum tables, like less than 10 for a two shoplots space and an open space staircase lead to the first floor, which is sadly not open. It's a nyonya dining place, I don't understand why they put the chinese traditional marble table & chairs around. Funny, makes me think that this is bought cheap over from the Old Town opposite. But the tables we are seating is alright, comfy sofa with solid chairs for those prefer otherwise.

There are five of us and we decided to feast away! In total, we ordered 5 dishes, basically each of us will need to order something, therefore the results are crazy.

Kong Sai Zai Chicken Rice Restaurant @ Puchong

We are heading into Puchong for errands and suddenly we are craving for protein source, which come best from fish or chicken. For lunch, chicken is always the best choice to fill my always hungry stomach, so my wife recommended us over to pay Kong Sai Zhai Chicken Rice a visit. Something new to me, let's go.

This is the Kong Sai Zhai Chicken Rice located in Puchong. I noticed there is another new shop beside it also painted the same colour, probably they are expanding or moving to the new shop. Look at the chair outside, it's there for the dinner session instead. Once the nightfall arrived, they will set-up tables & chairs all around the outside of the shop, road side dinner experience.

They also have two more branches over the Petaling Jaya, located in Bandar Sunway Mentari and Paramount. The latter being the main branch of the shops. Understand that quality is similar, so no problem.

Steamed Kampung Chicken for two and it looks like it's poached instead of steamed. Funny, but it's nice nonetheless. Kampung chicken texture is a little hard as expected but it's easy to eat. Very little fat and it taste not bad. If you ask me, nothing beat the steamed chicken from Ipoh, and if you compare something nearer, New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice I posted earlier has better chicken than this place. However, the specialty comes from the sauce they served. Let's see.

Yuen Garden Dim Sum @ Puchong

My friends used to tell me that Sri Petaling is famous with Dim Sum. Living nearby, I try to find out where is the best place to enjoy a traditional chinese breakfast, unfortunately I'm disappointed. I'm sure that this has nothing to do with my origin of Ipoh that has very good dimsum serving around the town. The shops around just does not live up to expectactions.

Eventually I gave up and whenever my friends ask me where to eat Dim Sum in Sri Petaling, I ask them back, from where they heard that Dim Sum is famous in Sri Petaling? They said there are lots of shops selling Dim Sum in Sri Petaling right? I said yes, but it's not good. I ask them go back Ipoh for Dim Sum instead, yes it's too far, but where else is good?

My wife brought me to this place in Puchong named Yuen Garden Dim Sum. Now if my friends are telling me Sri Petaling got lots of Dim Sum shop, then they never been to Puchong. There are easily over 10 place selling Dim Sum and I only blog about this one. Go find out.

Soon Soon Lye Salmon Fish Head Restaurant @ Puchong

Ok, more food to introduce. My wife and me are fish lover, we have fish almost every meal and we love it. Partly because my mum's family is fishermen generation, we have fish everyday. And of course, it's healthy food that all girls will like. My wife found a place to eat fish head noodle at Bandar Puteri Puchong, but not normal fish head. It's Cod Fish Head Noodle! First time I heard of it in my life. Worse that when I reached there, I saw below.

Not only Cod Fish Head, but Salmon Fish Head! Introducing the Soon Soon Lye Salmon Fish Head Restaurant.

Go up to the internal decoration, it's quite a typical chinese eating outlet where it's neat and also practical to fit as much table as possible. It's very windy and they do switch on the air-cond even it's open space. Nice touch, but meaning more expensive meal. No doubt.

The place is clean, spacious and empty when we got there. It's almost 2.30pm on Friday, probably all went back to work already. Nice, so I can get a clear shot.
