Cao Cao Roast Lamb Chop & Best Claypot Yee Mee @ Old Klang Road

ng RI went back to KL for the weekend and we just wanted to have something fast and simple. Immediately I thought of this place near Old Klang Road. It's some road side hawkers and it's truely some gems hidden. Normally I don't carry my D90 around places like these, so this is where the Canon S90 shines =) I asked my wife to grab it along, throw it into her bag and off we go.

We reached the place and I quickly try out the low light capability of the S90 from my seat. Impressive brightness at f/2.0 with little noise notice around ISO 800. Ok, this is the place, Cao Cao Roast Lamb Chop. Take note of the aunty standing beside the bbq pit, that's where the magic takes place, or inferior quality control!

A serving of the famous Cao Cao Roast Lamb Chop served with mint sauce. To me, the most important of having lamb chop is the mint sauce, I will never eat lamb at any place that don't serve the mint sauce. Simple, from my experience, if they don't serve the mint sauce, meaning that they don't know how to serve the lamb.

Take a bite and sunk your teeth into the lamb and you will know why this is voted by many as one of the best lamb chop around the town. The lamb is so tender and juicy and although it looks like medium well done, it's in fact much softer. The aroma of lamb is also not too strong, but enough for all lamb lover. The mint sauce is not particularly delicious, but it supplement the already perfect lamb served. It's a must try for lamb lover.

The plate served is a little pricy, because of their already established fame. Not particular expensive also but it's quite a small piece to start with. I'm not complaining.

I walk around the place and start snapping some bigger view of the place for you to find. It's not that hard to find the place. As when you travelling on Old Klang Road and approaching the pasar, take a turn into the road that's heading towards Kuchai Lama. It's just right at the road side. You will not miss it.

Funny thing is that I found not only 1 gem at this place, but two! Guess what?

The best Claypot Yee Mee in Kuala Lumpur. Did I mentioned that I'm Claypot Yee Mee lover? I savoured every Claypot Yee Mee I encountered everywhere. If it's a foodcourt, you bet what I will order if Claypot Yee Mee is available. I started eating it since primary school and until now, my parents still think I'm crazy =P

Walk across the Cao Cao Roast Lamb Chop store and you will find this place that sell Claypot Yee Mee. It's priced at RM5.00 and this is the best Claypot Yee Mee you can find in KL. Don't waste your time, I tried many places, and this is the best. Why? It's hard to explain in words. It's the combination of recipe that makes a perfect Claypot Yee Mee.

1. The Soup, very important and it must be flavoured with Yee Mee taste all around. A good Claypot Yee Mee will ensure that you turn the claypot slightly and consumed every drip of the soup available, every time! It doesnt happen a single time over thousands, then it's not good enough.

2. The Yee Mee, also very important. You will be surprise that there are many types / quality of Yee Mee used in all other shops. Most of the shops only use the normally found yee mee from the supermarket. I can cook that myself! But shop that's special, they have their own supply of special Yee Mee, the kind that you will not be able to find out there. Where they get it? I'm not sure, maybe you tell me after you asked them. It's different and this shop here serve just that.

3. The Claypot itself. For sure, how can they call it Claypot Yee Mee when they dont serve it in Claypot? Again, you will be surprise that many still doing that. Find a shop that cook the Yee Mee in claypot rather than stainless steel pot. I'm not sure how it works, but it just taste much better that way!

4. The Egg. Take a peek at the photo again. Yes, half cook egg with the yolk still flowing. Puncture the egg and consume the yolk with the incredible soup ... incredible. Erm, this might not best enjoy by everyone, but that's the part I like most.

5. Other ingredients, not very important but just make sure it doesn't "kill" the important matter I mentioned.

Ok, this is the best Claypot Yee Mee, why share with you guys now? I still have another shop that's voted best of best in Ipoh. Again, hawker shop so no chance to take photos. I will blog about it when got chance.

My wife ordered the Char Kuey Teow and it's really not bad. I ordered a small plate with double eggs, and a big plate shown up instead. I thought it's some kind of KL trick again that they will serve you big plate if you dont mention, but this shop is different. Just wait till you see the big one! It's quite good and worth mentioning in this blog, but not the best. Not sure what else to eat, do try it out.

The whole meal cost both of us less than RM20.00, and that's the best I like about hawker shops. Truely gems hidden in the street. Nice.
