River Nile Cafe & Bistro @ The Lost World of Tambun, Ipoh

With my job posting in Singapore, I'm running out of things to blog. I digged into my collection and surprisingly found this hidden gem that I missed out all the way from 2011. I doubted if I shall post it, because not sure if my experience still relevant or maybe the place has changed since my last visit. However decided to blog about it anyway, because it's a very nice place. An alternative dining place for folks in Ipoh, doubt many people know about it.

The place is located in the Lost World Tambun by Sunway City Ipoh. It's a little quiet here at night, but it's beautifully decorated and I love it.

This is the River Nile restaurant located within the Lost World Tambun, and looking at the photo alone, you would have to agree that it's a very nice place. The soothing lightings, beautiful plants, wooden table with Egyptian theme. Sunway obviously put lots of effort into this place. Those are the open air dining tables with bar for those that fancy some drinks and natural air.

There are internal section as well, fully air-conditioned with huge settings for lots of tables. The environment is very comfortable, and it's almost close to fine dining level, you will love it, and it's definitely a place for falling in love.

We went there for a big family gathering on the 2011 Chinese New Year, so obviously I didn't pay for the food. They are having a set dinner pormotion, so all of us get a set for ourselves, and below is the mixture of the foods served.

We ordered some additional Escargot for starter, and it's quite actually quite good. It's fresh and the sauce is delicious as well.

Bosch soup that come together with the set dinner, and as you can tell, it's quite oily. The taste is quite flat, not nice.

Alternative soup from the set dinner, something common, Mushroom Soup. It's ok, nothing to complain.

One of the main course, Grilled Salmon Fish with Spaghetti. Service is ok, salmon is a bit dry and tasteless, but for the cheap price tag, we are not complaining. It's ok, not great, but not that bad.

Another main course, the common Pasta Carbonara with Mushrooms and Ham. Not bad in my opinion, only lacking of some usual herbs combination in the carbonara serving, sure it's a good platter for a full size hungry man. Carbo loading!

Lastly, we got the Chicken Chop in Mustard Sauce with Spaghetti. The sauce is a little funny, and Chicken is alright. It's kinda weird that they serve Spaghetti with the main, main reason is to cater for Ipoh folks. Because for people like my dad and mum, they will need some rice / noodles to go with the western food. How often you hear them say, "Har, meat only? Where is the rice?" LOL

My choise of drink, local Teh Tarik, nothing compare to Ipoh standard, but it's ok la.

Finally the set dinner comes with ice-cream dessert, there are pieces of ices in the ice-cream, no good. Taste wise not bad.

Overall the food is so so. Can eat, but it's not a place that you will recommend out to your friends. However, considering the average price tag with the superb environment setup, it's still a good place for a young couple to escape for a lovely evening together in a romantic environment. I would consider this place if I'm looking for some alternative quiet moment with my wife when I'm in Ipoh.

Of course, I visited this place all the way back in 2011, so I'm not sure what's changed. I hope they are still open, we don't have much places to go in Ipoh you know. Cheers.
